Our favorite seasoning just got healthier! Why Himalayan Salt is better for you.

It is that time of year. Even if you hardly ever cook, we bet you will be cooking something in the next few weeks. Thanksgiving is NEXT WEEK, we can't believe it either! Soon our favorite foods will be on the table and even though we should, most of us won't be thinking about eating or even cooking very healthy. 

 

What if we told you a way to eat and cook a little healthier this year? And we're not talking about cutting back on the sweets, I mean who can do that anyway. No, we're talking about switching your white table salt to pink Himalayan salt. Thats it, such a simple switch will make a huge difference in how healthy your food is, but that best part is it won't change the taste! 

 

It is true that sodium is not the best for us and most of us get most of the sodium we eat from our salt. White table salt is not the best type for us to eat and here's why...white table salt has been processed and stripped of any minerals it may have had. The finished salt we buy at the store is 98% sodium chloride and 2% anti caking chemicals, so not really the best to consume. 

 

Pink Himalayan salt on the other hand is totally unprocessed, it is raw and we all know raw organic minerals are best for the body. With the 84 trace minerals it contains, this salt actually satisfies our cravings for salty snacks while providing our bodies with necessary minerals like calcium, iodine, potassium, magnesium and iron. In fact, Himalayan salt contains triple the amount of potassium, per serving, than Maldon or Celtic sea salt.

 

Do we really need salt?

Salt plays a crucial role in maintaining human health. It is the main source of sodium and chloride ions in the human diet. Sodium is essential for nerve and muscle function and is involved in the regulation of fluids in the body. It's the sodium in salt that causes most of the problems because although the human body can't live without some sodium. It doesn't take much. 

 

 

What about Sea Salt?

For a long time, people have switched sea salt for their regular table salt. Which used to be a great thing. Sadly though, our oceans and seas have become more and more polluted, in turn making the salt we pull rom the seas less pure. One major concern now with sea salt is the amount of micro plastics found in it. “It is not that sea salt in one country is worse than sea salt in another, it’s that all sea salt – because it’s all coming from the same origins – is going to have a consistent problem,” said Sherri Mason, a professor at the State University of New York at Fredonia, who led the latest research into plastic contamination in salt. 

 

 

With things going on in the world now, the purest form of salt found is pink Himalayan salt. It is mined deep within the Himalayan mountains, keeping it clean from all impurities. We have made it easier now more than ever to use and incorporate Himalayan salt into our food and cooking. With the use of cooking slabs, bowls and glasses, you can intake Himalayan salt without even seasoning the food because the dishes infuse the salt into the food. 

 

This year, keep in mind that making a simple switch can significantly increase the health of your food. We cook for our family with love and here in the South it is how we show our love. What better way to show your loved ones you care than cooking for them and making their food a little healthier. We promise they won't even know...but you will.
