Hello fellow salty people! I am Dr. Miki Gordon, and I am going to be writing articles for The Salt Oasis Kingsport as their healthcare consultant. I have multiple interests in the health benefits offered by The Salt Oasis Kingsport services, both personally and professionally.
I hold a Bachelors degree in psychology, a Masters in Counseling, and a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision. While I am not a physician, one of my specialties is seeing patients with chronic pain and chronic health conditions. I currently have a private practice in the Colonial Heights area of Kingsport. I also teach in the graduate counseling program at Johnson University, consult for various organizations, and am Psychological Health Faculty for the Episcopal Church’s health and wellness program for clergy.
My personal interest in The Salt Oasis Kingsport came from my own battles with chronic pain and allergies. Due to a reaction to fluoroquinolone antibiotics, I developed neuropathy (nerve damage), chronic tendinopathy, and muscle and joint pain. I and my daughter also suffer from seasonal allergies. The services of The Salt Oasis Kingsport have been a life saver for me; the infrared lights have significantly helped my neuropathy and pain, and the salt room has allowed me not to take expensive prescription allergy medications for the first time in years!
I have done research on these types of therapy, and found many interesting articles and studies supporting both halotherapy (salt) and infrared light therapy. My work as a professor allows me access to journal databases and current research, and I hope to share with you some of the amazing scientific evidence I have found for these therapies. We will be looking at different health conditions and how these can be addressed through natural healthy alternatives at The Salt Oasis Kingsport.
